Interesting Facts
There is a need for a means of storing a toothbrush that disinfects it and prevents it from becoming contaminated from the environment. Sani-Brush addresses this need by providing a novel toothbrush holder assembly.
Most of us would never consider eating or storing food in the bathroom, yet we think nothing of putting a toothbrush that has been stored in a less than hygienic environment, such as a bathroom counter into our mouths. This issue is particularly relevant after a pathogenic infection. Germs from the mouth are deposited on the toothbrush. This can lead to re-infections with a pathogenic micro-organism.
Toothbrushes are often stored in racks close together. This means that germs from one toothbrush can be transferred to another. Thus, a typical toothbrush can harbor micro-organisms from the mouth and from the environment.
The TV Discovery Channel, "Myth Busters" aired an experiment which was carried out to identify specific germs lurking in the bathroom. Toothbrushes were placed on a wall, 10 feet away from the toilet bowl, and were left for 30 days. Only 1 brush was covered. All of the toothbrushes with the exception of the covered brush were found to have micro-organisms which included particles of feces on them. Watch the entire segment on the Myth Busters website.
